So Big!

Landon is right at 7 1/2 months now and getting so big! He had an appointment with the pulmonologist today (he goes in monthly for shots that prevent him from acquiring RSV-a respiratory virus). He weighed 12 lbs. 10 oz. and was 24 in. long!
Because of his low birth weight and early arrival, Landon qualified for the Developmental Assessment Program at the Children's Hospital here in Austin. They follow him for the first three years, evaluating him for developmental and physical delays. A couple weeks ago we went in for an assessment. Landon scored right on track in all areas: gross motor, fine motor, receptive language, and expressive language! Keep in mind, they did test him as a 4 month old. During these assessments for the first three years, they consider him according to his gestational age. From four years old and on, he will go by his true age.
We know with his sparkling personality, exceptional intelligence and excellent genetic traits, he'll be caught up to the other kids in no time! (I don't sound like a biased Mom....do I? ;)

You want me to eat what?!

Since Landon has pretty much mastered cereal, we decided to try some other - more adventurous - foods! I made home-made apples, sweet potatoes, carrots and squash. I sure you could have guessed, he wasn't thrilled about the squash....but he loved the apples and sweet potatoes.
His appetite has been great. In addition to solids, he is taking 5 ounces of milk at a time during feeds. I remember the days we had to break a sweat to get one ounce in him! He had a doctor's appointment today (flu booster shot), but his weight was 12 lbs. 4 ounces! Yay Landon!

Our first year as parents, we decided to get Landon a gift that would not only be entertaining for him (and for us), but one that was also beneficial to his physical and mental development. We picked something practical and within our budget....an exersaucer. A toy he sits in that allows him to bear weight on his legs while reaching for a variety of toys. Perfect we thought, he will have fun playing and we'll have a free 10 minutes to make dinner or take a shower!
Unfortunately, this was his initial reaction.
How crushing! Our first major present to our son is a disappointment. Well, I wasn't going to let it end there. I was determined for Landon to love his Christmas present. I place him in the exersaucer at least once a day. Each time he stays in longer and enjoys it a bit more.
He hates tummy time, but will stand up for ever if you'll hold him there. Now we don't have to hold him, he stands here!
