Well, these "allergies" quickly took a turn for the worst Monday night. During his bath, Landon suddenly developed difficulty breathing, a barking cough, and stridor-a high pitched whistling during inspiration. Because of his preemie status and chronic lung disease, we were definitely worried.
We called his pediatrician who instructed us to put him the bathroom with a hot shower going. The steam helped to open his airway and get him some relief. He pediatrician also called in a prescription of steroids to decrease the swelling in his airway.
After visiting the doctor yesterday, Landon was officially diagnosed with Croup-a virus that causes upper airway (throat) swelling, excessive mucus production and all of the above "allergy" symptoms. Luckily, Landon is some what used to being sick and taking medications. He has been handling all this pretty well. The doctor said to expect him to feel under the weather for the next week or so.....keep your fingers crossed for us!
